Sustainable planning in Las Vegas
Sustainability
is one of the planning elements that take an important role in urban planning. Las
Vegas is a rapid growth city, and their government has been working on the
sustainable development with varies local agencies. Las Vegas is now recognized
as a well known city for their progressive environmental policies (2). Green buildings
program, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), and water stewardship are the ongoing sustainable
programs that help the city to establish a solid foundation for their future
sustainable development.
As Las Vegas is a well-known entertainment city that attracts many tourists to visit every day. In order to maintain the city to run their business in 24 hours, it needs a large consumption of water, energy and other resources every day. The Las Vegas city government has started a sustainable program and encourages everyone to participate in the program. Coordination among city departments, public, and private agencies would help to change the cultural mindset and eventually spread throughout the whole community (2).
